Begin at the final size.
Set up the design at the intended finished dimensions. Keep important text and marks away from the cut edge. Bleed and safe area requirements vary by product, so request the exact template before releasing final artwork.
Keep type and images crisp.
A print ready PDF or editable vector file is usually the easiest format to review. Embed or outline fonts when sending final files. Use high resolution images at the size they will print; around 300 ppi is a useful target for photographic work, though the right requirement depends on the process and viewing distance.
Make color intentional.
Check whether the project will use process color, a spot color or a special ink. On screen color is only a preview of print; material and finish can change the result. Ask about a physical proof if color is critical.
Separate special finishes.
Foil, spot UV, embossing, die cuts and other special operations may need clearly named vector layers or separate files. Do not flatten those instructions into a photograph. We will confirm layer names, line widths, tolerances and templates for the chosen production method.
Send the brief with the file.
Include product format, finished size, quantity, material preference, finish, delivery destination and target date. If an item folds, opens or has two sides, label the panels and orientation. We will check the requirements with you before production.
